MERLC is an offspring of the Mt. Everett Resource and Learning Center that originated out of Hallandale Beach, Florida in 2010 with the vision of Rev. Paul L. Kelley to clean up the streets by first cleaning up our youth and instilling in them accountability and responsibility. Research has revealed that a very similar community initiative is much needed and could possibly encourage and enhance the immediate welfare of the underserved population of Macon, namely Tindall Heights and Felton Homes, an identified segment of Macon’s Promise Neighborhood.
The mission of the Macon Educational Resource Learning Center (MERLC) is to instill a sense of responsibility to the community in which they live in our underserved at-risk youth through education, empowerment and development; as well as be of service to and create a safe, trusting environment for the residents, particularly the elderly, of Macon Bibb County and surrounding communities. We believe that grass-rooting in a blighted, underprivileged, underserved community with youth ages 5-12, will yield us a sedge way to systematically change the economic, educational and community dynamics.
